Le Connaissement maritime ou Bill of Lading (BL) est un écrit par lequel, le transporteur maritime, en la personne du Capitaine du navire, reconnait avoir reçu à son bord les marchandises qui sont énumérées sur le titre et qu'il s'engage à transporter en bon état ou dans l'état dans lequel elles lui ont été remises, d'un port à un autre, contre paiement par le Chargeur-Expéditeur d'un prix que l'on appelle le FRET.

Les fonctions

Le Connaissement maritime présente les trois fonctions suivantes, à savoir :

• Un reçu de la marchandise
• La preuve écrite du contrat de transport
• Le titre représentatif de la marchandise

 The Bill of Lading (BL) is a document in which the maritime carrier, represented by ship’s Captain, acknowledges having received on board the goods which are listed on the title and that he undertakes to carry in good condition or in condition in which they were delivered to it, from one port to another, against payment by Shipper a price called FREIGHT.

Functions

The Bill of Lading has the following three functions, namely:

• A Receipt of the goods
• The transport contract written proof
• The representative title of the goods
